We love art
Art has found a home in many spots in and around Antigua and Barbuda, almost as if the clean air, beautiful days and bright colours awaken the arty inspiration we all feel sometimes. I have also had those moments, but was able by mostly to just sit down long enough for the feeling to disappear, as I also realize it's OK to have the momentary inspiration, but to actually make the commitment of finding the right brushes, oils, canvas and not have the family try to get you certified, is something bigger. This why I am personally a big admirer of those who do keep the inspiration going and even do enough paintings to have an exhibition every now and again. Some of our restaurants become venues for these artists and such an exhibition is for example currently on view at Al Porto's at Jolly Harbour. Come and see Pete Caswell who is exhibiting his "Yachts and Waves of the Caribbean" and while you sip a crispy, ice cold crispy Sauvignon Blanc.
Went to Dickenson Bay the other day and it was a particularly happy meeting to come across someone we met some time ago and then didn't see for a while... His name is Alvin and he plies his trade right on the beach at Dickenson Bay, outside the entrance to Sandal's. He works on the spot, takes orders if you wanted to place one and is no stranger at sending paintings all over the world. Below are some of the work he exhibited when we last saw him, at the end of February 2012; if you'd like to make contact with Alvin, just send us an email and we'll put you in touch.
